Lynn Canyon and Barnet Marine Park with The Hale Family!

On British Columbia Day, a couple weekends ago, we took a trip to Lynn Canyon Park, a canyon just outside North Vancouver, with some friends of ours, The Hale family.

We braved the famous suspension bridge, above a deep ravine and waterfall, hiked through some family-friendly trails, found a fresh water pool, called 30 Foot Pool, where many people were gathered to swim and wade. There were even a few brave souls jumping into the deep areas from rocks up above. The forest was gorgeous! It was filled with lush, tall, cedars, Douglas Fir, White Pine and Black Cottonwood trees, among ferns, many species of fungi and berry bushes (of course!). We were in need of a good hike. It felt great! We used our hiking backpack for Isaac, which helped quite a bit. I got a thigh workout by climbing a steep wooden staircase on the trail with Isaac on my back, whew!

Lynn Canyon is a huge natural temperate rain forest just north of the Barrard Inlet coast. It has a miles of trails to explore (we barely scratched the surface), and quite an ecosystem that we learned a little about. We stopped in at the Ecology Centre after hiking. It was a small gift shop, but also had a small museum and family-friendly play area, that educated us about the rain forest. It was fun to look at plants, animals, birds, insects, trees, and water cycles of the rain forest. Our kids had a great time!

Later that afternoon, we stopped in at Dave's work, Nerd Corp, where he works as an animator on a T.V. show called, "Max Steel". He gave us a tour and we ate lunch in the air-conditioned kitchen area...on a hot day, that was great! It was nice to finally step inside the place he works, after he's already been there for 6 months! Haha!

That night, we met up with our friends, the Hale family again for BBQ dinner in north Burnaby on a nice little beach, called Barnet Marine Park. We loved that this beach had softer sand than other beaches around here. The kids (and Dads) enjoyed swimming and hunting for crabs, while the moms chatted. We ate yummy bratwurst, salad, watermelon and fruit pizza, with fresh blueberries we'd picked that week! It's so nice to have great friends to take nice outings with. Bradley is an animator with Dave at Nerd Corp, Nikole has been a very welcoming friend to me, Leslie, and I've been coaching her on a musical number that she and Bradley are performing together for her sister's wedding. I also work with Nikole in Primary at church. There little guy, Champ, is about 6 months younger than Isaac, but they act and look like they could be brothers, with their red hair! It's been fun getting to know them!

Stay tuned for a report on Kylee's birthday fun (it has something to do with horses)!
