Kylee's 9th Birthday

Back in August, Kylee's 9th birthday fell on a Sunday. We typically don't buy things or go places to spend money on Sundays. And, Kylee loves horses. So, imagine my excitement when I found out just a few weeks before her birthday, that our local Equestrian Centre was hosting a free family horse riding and horse activities day! It happened to fall on her birthday, right after we got out of church! I even owed her a horse ride from her last birthday! This was a deal too good to pass up! So, right after church and a short snack, our family headed over to the Equestrian Park, and surprised Kylee! She'd even changed into one of her horse shirts without knowing what was going to happen. She was on cloud nine! Technically, the horse rides were already closed when we arrived, but I convinced them, that since it was her birthday and she adores horses and that we'd just come from church, that they should just squeeze her in. They were kind enough to agree. The other kids didn't get to ride, but they all enjoyed watching the horse demonstrations, free face painting and crafts, and feeding carrots to the horses in the stalls. We would really like for Kylee to take lessons someday! (I would love to take lessons someday!) I once was the horse-lovin' kind also. I still have that old me buried down deep!

Dave works at a company called Nerd Corp. He doesn't animate on this show, but the company produces a famous girl's show called "Monster High", many of you have probably heard of it. ;) We don't really watch it, but Dave got Kylee a Monster High birthday cup and some balloons that look like cats (she also likes cats)...or are supposed to. We are not sure what they actually resembled.

Kylee wanted to make an old fashioned "1-2-3-4 cake" with strawberry butter cream. The cake turned out way too dense, but the frosting was great! We made it from scratch, with real strawberries! The lovely flowers were given to us the night before from some friends we had over for dinner. They looked beautiful next to a beautiful, grown-up nine-year-old! Happy Birthday, Kylee!
